SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Wayne High School Alumni Association & Scholarship Fund Brief History

This  Association first emerged informally in the late 1890’s and flourished on and off through the years until the start of World War II. The Class of 1930 met to plan their anniversary party for their 50th year graduation from Wayne High. As the next year did this, then the next,  several alumni decided it would be a great idea to have an All Class Reunion each year, to honor each class on their 50th anniversary. This was the beginning of the Association, as we know it today. Formed in 1984, the first President was Forrest Keown, followed by Charles  Madigan, Tom Sullivan, Floyd LeSuer, James Doletzky, Lloyd Solarz, Joanne Wallace Johnson, Kenneth Reimann, Frank McMurray, Tillie Miller Van Sickle, Terri Laraway Grzecki , Richard Smith, and Carole Srock Swain-Simons.

The Association awarded its first Scholarship of $500 per year for four years to Nancy Kwilas in 1986. In 1997 the Scholarship Award was increased to $1,000 per year. In 2001 two $1,000 Scholarship Awards were granted, increasing to $1,500 in 2008 and $2000 in 2020.

In 2022 , it was decided to award two additional one-year ($2000) scholarships to two WMHS students who attended the Wm D Ford Career -Tech Center.

In 2025 we have chosen to dispense scholarships for up to three WMHS students;  the amount will be increased to $3,000 per year for 4 years.

For WMHS Wm. D. Ford Career-Tech Center students, the number  of scholarships has also increased for up to three students. It will be a one-time disbursement of $3,000, focusing on students who plan to study and train for the skilled trades.

To date, we have granted over $256,000 in scholarships to deserving Wayne Memorial High School graduates! This is all made possible through your generous donations!
